Sune Tjernström

Sune Tjernström spent a few interesting years as Director of Planning at the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation, working with the establishment of local radio in Sweden, later as expert in a Royal Commission on radio and television. Left broadcasting to become Executive Director of the Swedish Magazine Publishers' Association. A few years as one of five department heads in the Ministry of Industry, involving e g negotiating a merger in the steel industry as representative of the government, taking part in OECD discussions on 'positive adjustment' policies.

Leaving the public sector to become Executive Director of the Swedish Newspaper Publishers' Assocation, defending freedom of expression, and defending beneficial financial conditions for newspaper companies, e g in the area of VAT levies. Sune represented the press on the Board of Directors of the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation for six years. Left the association after a dispute around the distribution system for publications. Sune Tjernström took up consulting for French newspaper publishers, and taught IB Economics in the Scandinavian School in Brussels. After moving back to Sweden in order to return to academic life, teaching and doing research, Sune published a book on the history of management in the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation. He managed to get a teaching position at the university's Business School, which has later transferred to the School of Communication and Design where he teaches Media Management and publishes research results at conferences and in specialized journals on Media Management and Media Economics.

 

Specialties have been government liaison, mergers and acquisition, or negotiations in general. He also takes pride in suggesting and implementing innovative solutions in various areas, such as new educational programs or research projects.
