Jose-Carlos Lozano, M.A. University of Leicester, England; Ph.D. University of Texas at Austin, USA,  is the Director of the Center for Communication and Information Research, and the Graduate Program in Communication, at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Monterrey Tech), in Monterrey, Mexico. In January 2003, Lozano was granted the ITESM Research Chair in Audiovisual Media and Globalization in North America, consisting of $750,000 U.S. dollars. He leads a team of five professors, eight graduate, and eight undergraduate students who work in different projects related to this line of research.

Lozano is former director of Mexico in the Executive Board of the Federation of Latin American Communication Schools (FELAFACS). Since 1992 is a member of the National System of Researchers (S.N.I.) of the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT) of Mexico. He is author of around 40 journal articles in the areas of mass and international communication, and 12 chapters in edited scholarly books. He is the author of a textbook in mass communication theories published by Pearson and widely used in Mexican communication schools and in several Latin American countries. He is former editor of the Mexican Communication Yearbook (volumes 1 through 4) and currently a member of the editorial board of journals in Brazil, Mexico, and Uruguay. He is the editor of “La comunicación en México: Diagnósticos, balances y retos” (Communication in Mexico: Diagnoses and challenges), with contributions by many of the leading Mexican communication scholars (in press).

Lozano has lectured in Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, the United States, and Venezuela, and has delivered around 35 papers at international conventions and meetings, and 36 at Mexican conferences. As director of the Televisa´s Research Chair in 1999 in the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (Monterrey Tech), he directed a massive quantitative and qualitative reception study in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey with a team of 50 colleagues, graduate, and undergraduate students. Also, he directed an international collaborative content analysis project of 12 Latin American daily newspapers in 1998.

Lozano´s primary areas of research interests are in the areas of international, political and mass communication.
