Hajime Yamada is a Professor, Faculty of Economics in Toyo University in Japan and is a Member of Engineering Academy of Japan. He is also an Affiliated Fellow of National Institute of Science and Technology Policy where he writes various reports that are submitted to the Council of Science and Technology Policy of Japanese Government.

He received B.E., M.E. and D.E. from Keio University and M.S. in Management of Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Before being Professor, he was the Executive Manager of Standardization Strategy in Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation.

His research interests include economics of information and communications media, accessibility of information and communications, and management of technology. He publishes books frequently, one of which is “Management of Technology: Innovating the Future (in Japanese)” from NTT Publishing in 2004. He won the third prize of IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) Centenary Challenge in 2006 by a paper titled "Standardization and Patent Pools: Using Patent Licensing to Lead the Market." He wrote a report tilted “Technology and Policy Trends in Frequency Sharing” in 2005 to the Council of Science and Technology Policy in which he proposed special wireless experiment zones first in Japan.

He participates in various international, regional and national standardization activities including ITU-T Director’s Ad hoc Group on IPR and ISO/IEC JTC1 Special Working Group on Accessibility and was the Project Editor of ISO 9241-20 (Ergonomics of human-system interaction - Part20: Accessibility guidelines for information communication equipment and services: General guidelines). He was a member of Telecommunications and Electronic and Information Technology Advisory Committee under the United States Access Board and is a member of Design-for-all and Assistive Technology Standardization Co-ordination Group in Europe. He made presentations in various occasions including the 1st Global Forum of Global Initiative for Inclusive ICT at United Nations Headquarters in New York on March 26, 2007.

He is a Member of IEEE in which he serves as the Chair of Technology Management Council Japan Chapter, Optical Society of America, The Japan Society for Science Policy and Research Management and other academic societies.
